I Hope She Finds One

"It is so unfair." That is what I often hear my cousin say whenever a new zit has just so comfortably placed itself on her cheeks. I really am one of the lucky ones that didn't go through the heightened pimple activity during my puberty. Though I have occasional breakouts, I was fortunate to not have any acne problems when I was a teenager. Too bad for my cousin, the moment she reached the age of 13, her once flawless and rosy cheeks are now red from the acne.

Another school year is about to start and she is desperate to get the best acne treatment. She doesn't want to go to her new school looking like that. I hope she finds one so she can go to her new school feeling confident. She's such a pretty girl and I really don't want her always hiding her face or looking down because of her acne.

Chichirya

My favorite "snack" right now --> Hi Tempura. I just love the combo of fish crackers (or is it shrimp hence the name Tempura? hmmm..) and seaweeds. The package is resealable with a ziplock thingy at the top of the package but it's really useless because I can finish the whole thing in less than 10 minutes. Maybe if they'd remove the ziplock thingy it would cost less. Ma-suggest nga! Bwahahaha! Takaw! It's a bit pricey @ php 80+ but for me it's worth it. Saaarrraaapp!!!.

TIME and TIME again....

Last Friday, my future MIL *wink wink* has arrived.

After days of making our apartment squeaky clean, it finally paid off when she said that it looked great! Whew! *wiping sweat off my forehead*

So anyway, I just wanted to share two of the things that she gave me that really left a plastered smile on my face. Teehee! :-)

Item #1: She gave me her (but still looked brand new) Nurse Mates wrist watch and a lapel watch. It looks really nice. I can't wait to use it during our hospital duties. Plus I'm hoping and wishing that her Head Nurse skills and knowledge would be transferred to me. LOL!

Item #2: She gave us (moi and Aris) a gold necklace. It has a pendant that looked like half of a coin. One has a girl's face while the other one has a guy's face. Both pendants had an Italian inscription: "divisi ma sempre uniti". I researched and found out that these are his & hers love pendants. I found two meanings for the inscription. One says: "Always Together Though As Individuals" and the other says: "Divided But Always United". *kilig*

His mom said that those necklaces have been travelling with her for a couple of years now. Everytime she would go back here in Manila for a vacation, she'd bring the necklaces with her. I'm not exactly sure how old the necklaces are but she said she's been bring it to and from Manila for quite some time now and that she would give this to Aris so he could give it to the girl he would marry. *kilig ulit.. LOL!* I think both Aris and I were blushing when his mom handed it to us. *grinning*

What A Rose Can Say

Thanks for this Farah! :-D

What A Rose Can Say
A rose can say I love you and want you to be mine,
A rose can say I thank you for being so very kind,
A rose can say congratulations, whatever the occasion may be,
A rose can say I miss you and wish you were here with me,
A rose can say I'm sorry if I've hurt you in any way,
A rose can say get well soon, May God bless you today,
A rose can say I wish you happiness, and the best for you each day.
A rose can say farewell when someone goes away,
A rose can say hello, I'm thinking of you today,
There's just so many wonderful things that a rose can say,
A rose can say goodbye when a love one is laid to rest,
No matter what there is to say, a rose can say it best.

I'm sending this to: Kay, Marie, Andrea, Arlene, Gracie, Agnes and Liza.

Peculiar Friday Tag

Obviously this is a late tag. LOL! Thanks Marie for this! :-)

DO YOU PREFER…

1. To watch or participate?
It depends.... but I prefer to participate. :-)

2. Malls, catalog shopping, or the Internet?
Malls and internet...

3. A bath or shower?
A bath with matching candles and music. Hehe!

4. To talk to people by telephone, in person or by e-mail?
In person but if they're miles away I'd prefer the phone rather than an e-mail.

5. Typing or writing?
When it comes to notes in school, I'd prefer to type it but for snail mail, I prefer writing. It's more personal that way. :-)

I'm tagging: Louraine, Princess and Papams.

And then there were THREE!

As I have mentioned in this post, I have decided to create another blog. Yup, you heard me right... another blog. This is my third! It's a blog about my crazy experiences and newly-absorbed knowledge as a student nurse. It's not a serious blog if that's what you 're all thinking. It's not one of those nursing blogs that give out information about certain medical conditions, drugs, first aid, nursing care plan, etc etc. Well... it may contain these info but written in a way that you and I can apply in our daily lives. I didn't make this third blog to sound like a lecturer but a curious, fumbling, almost and always confused student nurse.

So check it out! You might actually learn a couple of things. I know I did... :-D

Early Birds

Before I go ranting and raving about the things that happened last week which I was unable to post because of our exams, I would just like to say that SOMETIMES, the early bird SCARES the worm.

I've always been early and has RARELY been late in school and in the office. My friends, especially Kay know how fast a driver my dad is. I guess I got my driving skills from him. So anyway, even now when the school is just a 10-minute drive, I still leave the house 30-45 minutes before my class starts.

Being an early bird has a lot of benefits but this morning was different. Just when Aris and I decided to go to school a little bit earlier than the usual (our class starts at 7:00 am), around 10 before six in the morning, so our friends and I can get good seats in the classroom, we received a forwarded text from our classmate that the instructor who will be handling the lecture had an emergency and so our class (where we were supposed to have a long exam) was cancelled. Argh! Grr! Kainis! I even studied till 2:00 am for our exam (although I can hardly recall the info..LOL!). Plus, I already had the make up on, my hair is pulled up neatly despite my 2 1/2 hours of sleep. Sheesh!

We learned our lesson... Never again!

Good Clean Fun

The other day, my cousins and a few friends were hanging out and got really bored. So my cousin who is a freshman in college asked us if we wanted to come to their acquaintance party. We were a little hesitant at first knowing that most of the guests in that party are very young but since there was nothing left to do, we went and crashed the party. There was loud music blasting inside the house. There were a lot of booze, pizza, chips and every known junk food you can think of. We all thought we were in heaven. I was also surprised to see beer pong tables set up in the backyard of the house plus a couple of trampolines. That was a very unlikely combination but the "kids" seem to be having fun. We stayed in the gazebo at the backyard and was having a great time. I was glad there weren't any injuries from the trampoline but I guess the people in the party were smart enough to stay away from it after losing in the drinking games. It was good clean fun and we're glad we went.

Birthday Treat

My birthday is fast approaching and I'm thinking of buying myself a little something for my third decade of existence in this world. It sounds a bit melodramatic but I am really dreading that day so I thought a gift to myself is appropriate to relax me.

So when I was in the mall this afternoon, I saw this really pretty necklace. The chain is white gold that is about 18 inches long. It would really look good in one of my tops. But what really attracted me to this piece is the pendant. There were a couple of blue and pink topaz that were joined together forming an elliptical shape. I really can't explain it but it sort of looks like the Milky Way. So anyway, I'm seriously thinking of buying it because it unique and it matches the colors of most of my clothes. I just hope they still have it when I come back next week. Advance happy birthday to me!

Song of the Week #11

The Song of the Week is from one of my favorite movies, Empire Records. The song's title is Sugar High by Coyote Shivers. I have searched far and wide for a DVD copy of this movie here in the Philippines but was unsuccessful. Luckily, I immediately saw one when we went to the US last year. If you haven't seen the movie *tsk tsk tsk* go download it or something. :-)

This is the video of that part of the movie where the young Renee Zellweger is singing in the song. Yup, that's her! You can also see the young and sexy (and almost most of the guys I knew back then had a crush on her), Liv Tyler.

Enjoy the song people! Happy Monday!

And to all... A Good Night!

After two non-blogging days, I am dropping by just to say "hi" (for now) to my fellow bloggers. I am still tired to blog but I promise to update you guys tomorrow. After all, tomorrow is Song of the Week posting. I just really need some serious shut-eye to recuperate from my late night study sessions last week.

Good night everyone!
And Happy 80th Birthday again to my lola, Ina! :-)

I'm Missing it for the Second Time!

My friend Harold who has been living in Spain for quite some time now, decided to meet up with our friends in California. They're having a little get together in San Diego. I so envy them! My friend's uncle always avail of the San Diego summer rentals so that would be the venue for their get together. They're staying there for a week or so. I've always wanted to have a San Diego beach vacation. You see, I wasn't able to go there the last time I went to California because I got sick and missed out on all the fun. I was stuck in bed with the flu watching TV while all of them were having a great time at the beach.

So anyway, they sent me pictures and notes on my e-mail saying how they missed me and that they hope I could come next time. You bet! I will make sure that the next time they go on a trip like this, I'll be the first one packing. Missing it for the first time, I can deal with it. The second time really made me green with envy but the third, I won't miss it for the world! I hope my friend's dad would make take a serious look on the San Diego beach real estate so we can have the place all to ourselves whenever we want to.

Peek-A-Boo!

My apologies for not updating my blog for the past two days. I have been busy studying for my examssss in Pharma for tomorrow and the day after that. Plus, I have a new "project" AKA blog (LOL) that I'm working on since yesterday morning. I think choosing a layout is the hardest part in creating a blog. Haha!

Change topic. My friend, Em told me that Google has made another update yesterday or was it today. I'm confused with the time zones already. Hehehe! I have got to buy me one of these! So anyway, my PR is still ZERO, "0", nada!, bokya, bagsak, itlog! Why Google? Was it something I did? Was is it something I didn't say (when I didn't say I love you? --LOL!)? Was it something I didn't do? Tell me. Tell me!!! LOL! I don't get it. My other blog, whose readers I can count using my two hands (the left and the right, LOL!), was given, granted, blessed with a PR 1. *Bigeyedgal gleaming with pride already* So what gives? Why is Big Eyed Gal still a "0"? Do I not mean anything to you papa Google?

So there. I'll see you probably in the weekend guys. That is, if my EQ is that high already. If not, then I'll see you later! Hehehe!

Have a good one! :-D
4

Song of the Week #10

I realized that I haven't posted any OPM here. So for the Song of the Week, I am posting Cynthia Alexander's Comfort In Your Strangeness. This is my favorite song of Cynthia Alexander. You can watch her perform live (and I do recommend it) @ the Conspiracy along Visayas Ave., Quezon City during weekends. Naks libreng plug!

This is for Jasper and Aris.

Enjoy the song people! Happy Monday! :-)

Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon Got Married!!!

I was shocked when I saw this on the telly. I didn't even know that these two were dating. That's because it's only been two months since they started dating and then they got married already? Sheesh! I'm starting to like Mariah again then this happens. I have nothing against the couple it's just that... TWO months?! Oh well, that's their lives they're messing with and not mine. Good luck to them!

Here's a video...

Sleeping Beauty

Moral of the Story: When you're sleepy, sleep! Otherwise, you'd see yourself in this kind of video. LOL!

This is super cute and funny!

Happy Sunday everyone! :-)

And a few more Tweaking...

Since I mentioned doing some minor tweaking in my bedroom, I might as well change a couple of things in my bathroom. Let's start with the tiles shall we. The tiles are your average light green tiles that my parent's chose since it was their bathroom to begin with. I was just the second user of the room so I had no choice. I know getting new tiles for the bathroom is costly but if I have the budget I'd use bigger tiles and choose a more neutral color. The bathroom faucets also have to go because the handles are all broken and for sure it wouldn't match the new tiles that I wanted. After that, I'll see what's left on our budget and if there's some left, I want a tub added. Hmmm... I think the bathroom renovation would be more expensive than the changes I have to make in my bedroom.

Minor Tweaking

I was browsing through the hundreds of interior design magazines Aris bought when he had the apartment renovated. I was looking at some of them and I realized that my room in my parent's house badly needs a makeover. You see, my room used to be the master's bedroom but since we had our house renovated, my parents moved to the new room and I ended up transferring to the master's bedroom. I am now the master. Haha!

So anyway, I wanted to change the color of the room. I'm thinking of making my room two-tone or maybe ask my artist friend to draw a mural on one of the walls. I would also like to change the light fixtures as they are so outdated. I want one of those really sleek-looking droplights. And lastly, I want to bring back the use of curtains instead of the blinds. I think my room would look warmer with the curtains. Maybe after these minor tweaks, my room would definitely look like the ones in the magazines. Stay tuned...

I am an "Advocate"

Was tagged by Mind Bubbles and Abie. Thanks girls!

I already took this kind of test when I was in college. Being a Psych grad, we had this one subject where we took almost all available Psych tests in school and we get to check our scores and see the interpretations. And I find it amusing to see that I haven't changed. This was also my Personality Type way back in 1998. :-)

For huge hands and fingers

Do you have big hands and have a hard time playing video games? You can't quite play well because your huge fingers keep on pressing two keys at the same time. Then I suggest you check this out!

I have small hands but I would love to have this in our apartment. Really cool! Old school rocks! :-)

What Happens in Vegas

NOTE: Non-spoiler entry.
Last Tuesday, Aris and I had another movie date. Wee! *kilig*

We met up at Trinoma because I just came from my class, went home to change while he was fresh from the office. When we got there, we were hoping to watch Jackie Chan's Forbidden Kingdom but they're not showing it anymore. So we chose What Happens In Vegas. Speed Racer is showing too but I didn't felt like watching it.

Actually, I wasn't really thrilled to watch What Happens in Vegas because first off, I wasn't able to see the trailer. I have a thing for that except if it's based on a book that I've read. Second, I felt like Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher wouldn't click together. They seem like an odd couple to me. But my assumptions were all wrong. The movie was so funny! There's this scene where they were at each other's throat trying to get to Queen Latifah first. It was hilarious! The bestfriends of Cameron and Ashton were also funny.

I suggest all you lovebirds out there to watch this movie. Perfect date movie! :-)

Beauty Must-Have

My mom and I were talking the other day about skin blemishes and we were comparing notes on where to go for the best facial. We've tried a couple together and some we discovered on our own. I'm really not into the whole peeling remedies that is said to remove freckles, pimple marks and other blemishes. I'm afraid to try out new products and procedures when it comes to my face due to a very bad experience. You see, I used to be adventurous and tried different creams, gels, toners, etc that are new and are said to give "outstanding results". Unfortunately, I ended up having break outs. So now, I'm really skeptical when it comes to beauty products.

There's one thing though I can't live without and that is my moisturizer. Before, I never used moisturizer on my face because thinking that my face was oily enough to moisturize my whole body then I see no need for applying a moisturizer. It's a good thing my friend, Harold cleared this notion and now my face is more softer. BUT, I now notice a couple of lines forming at the corner of my eye plus my laugh lines are getting more prominent. It's either I stop smiling or I should now be on the hunt for the best anti wrinkle cream. I'm sure my mom would also benefit from this.

Mommy... Mama... Inay...

Here's another delayed post. This is supposed to be my Mother's Day post but due to certain circumstances, I was unable to post any entries last Sunday. Actually, it's ok that this post is delayed because I think Mother's Day should be like Christmas, it should be celebrated everyday and not just a single day in a year. Cheers to my mom and all the moms out there.
"Thank you very much!"

* Thank you for carrying us in your womb. This is one selfless act that you should always be proud of. I can just imagine, the sacrifices you have to make for us to come out healthy. And to go through it knowing the pain that you will be experiencing.

* Thank you for being patient. Taking care of us from the whiny babies that we are to the hyperactive and most of the time stubborn kids that we were, you still waited on us, cooked for us, fed us and bathed us.

* Thank you for making all the necessary sacrifices just to make our lives more comfortable. Even if it means putting on hold the things that you wanted to do. It was always us who are on the top of your list.

* Thank you for always being there to support us even if we've already grown up. We may act like adults and often say that we can manage on our own but when things go down the hill, we always run to you for support and encouragement and you were always there to give it.

* Thank you for not giving up on us despite our failures and shortcomings. We may have a couple of arguments and misunderstandings but I know that your intentions are all good.

* Thank you for being a friend, a bestfriend.

Healthy Me

I've always had good appetite especially when it comes to junk food. I eat fruits though but for some vegetables, I just can't bring myself to eat them. My mom and other friends have constantly nagged me to eat vegetables. I know they are good for the body and all but the taste of some are just too much for me.

Since I'm not really eating healthy, my friends suggested that I take multi-vitamins. It makes sense so I agreed. I went to this all-natural store and was shocked to see all the different kinds of vitamins and food supplements out there. There are your usual multi-vitamins, there are those Vit. E tablets for keeping your hair, skin and nails healthy, Gingko Biloba for good memory and others that target a specific area of your body. There's this one aisle that caught my attention. They were all-natural diet pills and fat burners. My aunt who was with me at that time mentioned Orovo. She said her friend tried it and lost a lot of weight but still remained healthy. An evil plan was brewing in my brains. I was thinking of buying diet pills instead of vitamins. My evil plan was postponed because my aunt was already carrying the multi-vitamins at the check out counter. Maybe next time when she's not around.

Song of the Week #9

This is a delayed Song of the Week entry. Unfortunately, to my dear friend Jas, I wouldn't be able to accommodate your request because there weren't any complete tracks of the song you've requested. I hope this one will do.

The song of the week is White Flag by Dido. I like Dido and there's this part of the song that I would like to say to my Pharmacology exam that I took yesterday (LOL):

"I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door ..."

Hahahaha! I am not surrendering to Pharma. I may possibly have failed our midterms exam yesterday (who wouldn't?!) but I am going to take the final exam two weeks from now with a vengeance. LOL! I am not surrendering!

Later!

The stress test in this post is really going crazy. Before it was just making sluggish movements but when I looked at it a couple of minutes ago, their movement is that of ants when you disrupt their line going to a fallen candy on the floor. I am stressed. Will post the reason why later when the coast is clear. Same goes for the Song of the Week and the numerous tags. I will do them guys. Please bear with me. :-)

I'll be back.... with a vengeance! Happy Monday everyone!

No more empty streets

In my generation, going out on the streets to play is our only pastime. We would start at around eight in the morning have a break to have lunch then go back outside around three in the afternoon once we've had our afternoon nap then retire for the day once it's dinner time. It is rarely seen for a street to not have kids playing all sorts of games. A favorite of mine is hide and seek once it gets dark. I've had a lot bruises from hiding under a pick-up truck or I've had red ants crawl on my leg biting me at the same time when I've accidentally stepped on a small anthill while hiding behind a bush. I can still remember that night, my playmate wasn't even able to finish counting till 10 because I was screaming and I looked like doing the cha-cha because I was stomping my feet so that the ants would fall off from my legs. I had a terrible rash that night.

Now, what's rare is to find a street with kids playing those games. Most of them are all inside their houses playing with their toys and computers. I feel bad for them because they don't know that they are missing. Playing on the streets made us fit because we were always running or doing something physically challenging. Our social skills were also developed because of the constant interaction and thus learning how to accept one another (though a few teasing cannot really be helped), learning how to bargain especially when borrowing toys, accepting defeat without being a sore loser and basically learning how to treat each other with respect. A scar on my right knee will forever remind me of those times. I do hope to see more children especially during the summer to be out on the streets playing. I really want them to experience what we had.

Smart Shopper

My friends, especially Em would attest to the fact that I am a shopaholic. I love to shop. There was a point in my employed life that I think I was bordering into compulsive buying. At times, I would feel really restless when I go to the mall and not go home with a shopping bag(s) on my hand. It's like the bags, shoes, clothes or whatever is in the store is talking to me asking me to take them. I mean, I don't want to hurt their feelings so I take them home with me. But now that I've paid off my debt in my credit cards, I've learned my lesson. I am more of a smart shopper than a compulsive one. I (usually) buy things that I really need and not the things that I want. Like for example in shoes, I have 10 pairs of flipflops so I restrain myself from buying more of these instead I buy flats. You might be laughing because I still do a lot of shopping but look at it this way, I'm a smart buyer now. Who needs 11 pairs of flipflops when I can have other kinds of shoes?

Seriously though, I try to go shopping during sale periods and if I have discount coupons in my favorite stores. I don't just go and get the first thing that I like, instead I look for the best buy that I can find and then grab it and head to the check out counter. Actually, it's more of run to the check out counter so as not to see the other items. I'm only human and I can easily be tempted. But when I get home and open my shopping bag, I feel really happy and at ease when I know that I bought that item in a decent price.

We should all do our part

Since we're in the topic of drugs, it really is no laughing matter when a loved one is sent to a drug rehab. Most of the time, keen observation is key to detect signs of addiction because drug addiction as we all know isn't just about those recreational drugs like marijuana, heroin, ecstacy, etc. Addiction could start from the most simplest pain reliever. It usually starts there until the drug has little or no effect anymore that the person taking it would look for something that is stronger than the previous one. That's why we are taught in school that just because is saying that he or she is experiencing pain that we automatically give the medicine to the patient. We have to make the necessary assessment to know if the patient is in real pain or is just there to get more drugs that he or she is addicted too.

We should all do our part to prevent or to stop drug addiction. But we should remember that they are just as members of this society as we are so they need our love and support in this endeavor.

Now You Know

There's one thing that I learned from class the other day that might actually be useful to all the mommies who have little kids. It's about parasites. Our professor told us that usually when a child has a parasite or worms in the body, the child would be restless (sometimes at night because some worms are nocturnal), the child would have a bigger belly and you would catch your child scratching his/her behind. When you see these signs, go to your doctor and ask if anti-helmintics/parasites/worms drugs can be given to the child. If the doctor agrees, he might ask you to give your child some Benadryl first. No, it's not that your child has allergies or cough, the Benadryl is to sedate the parasites in your child's body before you give the anti-parasites drugs. You might think it's weird why there is a need to sedate the parasites. Actually, it's a very good idea to do this if you don't want to see worms coming out of your child's mouth or nose instead of his anus. Not sedating the worms would mean that they're active and if they're active and you give the meds, tendency for the worms is to get out of the body at the nearest "exit" that they can find. So it's better to sedate them so they could "quietly" come out of the usual "exit". LOL!

Serious about drugs

I didn't think I wouldn't be bored in our Pharmacology class. Actually, I'm really listening very well. I was thinking last Monday before the class started that for sure after a few minutes of the lecture, my mind would be going to la-la land and I'd be daydreaming already. Instead, I was really listening the whole time even though I knew that I'm recording the lecture. One of the reasons that probably peaked my interest is the fact that administering drugs is a make it or break it situation. Or should I say, it's a matter of life OR death situation. One wrong dose or drug given to a patient and that's it. It's either the patient's condition worsens or (knock on wood!) the patient dies. When this happens, I have two words for you: "Bye-bye license".

So far, we've discussed the most common antibiotics found in hospitals. As I've mentioned in this post, we had our exam yesterday and it was really hard (again!). I never thought there were so many kinds of Penicillins. There are some that with prolonged use can cause gradual hearing loss. The generic names are so hard to pronounce and that means they are so hard to spell. Sheesh! Can you say: Sulfamethoxazole three thimes? LOL!

I have a renewed respect to Pharmacist.

Save, Save, Save

Times are hard these days. The value of our money has been constantly going down. I miss those days when all you need are a couple of coins in order to get a snack. Today, prices of every commodity is going up while your salary remains constant. Every bit of strategy in order to save should be well calculated. Take for example eating out every night. You can save more by cooking your own meals rather than paying for god knows how much plus tax! Another instance is renting a townhouse or an apartment. This is very costly as compared to owning a house or an apartment. Instead of paying every month for the rent, it's better to go to mortgage lenders so that in the future, that place you call a house is now your OWN home. You could also cut down a bit when it comes to shopping. Why not just go shopping when there's a sale? It not only helps you save money but it also helps improve your E.Q. There are more ways to save money. It's just a matter of altering one's lifestyle.

Viva Las Vegas

We're planning on going again to Vegas this December, this time (and hopefully) my parents, my brother's and Aris's family will be there too. It's only May but I'm already excited. I'm trying to contain it so as not to jinx the plan so that it will push through this December.

We've been there before but we weren't able to look at all the hotels and play in their casinos. This time, we'll make sure that we get to see the other hotels and eat at all the hotel buffets. Oh and another thing that I failed to do the last time we were there was to have a picture taken with an Elvis impersonator. That will be number three in my list.

Once everything is settled, I'll be booking for our accommodation. The only problem that I'm seeing with this task is to pick one from the huge number of las vegas hotels. One thing is for sure though, I'll be picking the one that's not too pricey.

After Credits Scene in Iron Man

Aris found out that there was an after credits scene in Iron Man. We were so disappointed that we left before the end credits. It seems like this is the trend. I think the first time I've watched an end credits scene was in Harry Potter. But I don't get it. Why would they shoot a scene and put it at the end credits but they're not gonna inform the public about it? It's not like everyone stays to finish the credits. I mean, what can we get from reading them? *sigh* Anyway, I got this from youtube. The quality isn't good so just try to listen carefully.

So for those who are planning to watch Iron Man, stay after the credits so you can tell me what "he's" saying.

Information Overload

After having summer break, it's kind of difficult to instantly get back to studying mode. Well, for me at least. This week was the start of our summer class and the lectures are getting harder and more complicated. There are a lot of things to memorize and a lot to analyze. Exams are also different now. They are now more harder and confusing at the same time. Gone are the days when you're sure that there's only one answer from the choices given. Now, the process of elimination is key, otherwise, one might think that all the answers to the questions is ALL OF THE ABOVE. It's at these times that I wish my memory is that of a computer. Getting information is as simple as saying the word "search". Well, I hope I'd be able to train my brain into memorizing all these information real soon.

Pharmacology

As I've mentioned here, things are going to be crazy this week. Last Monday was the start of our Pharma(cology) class and yesterday we had our first quiz. My gas abelgas! It was a 10-item quiz, matching type style.

You're all probably saying, the quiz should've been easy because it's a matching type quiz. No, it was NOT easy! It could have been if: 1) The number of items in column A would've had the same number of items in column B or could have had just at least 2 more in column B. Instead, there were 5 extra items in column B, that made things more confusing. 2) There were more than 2 possible answers for each number. Our professor said that he'll be doing the same format of the NCLEX exam for his tests. So that we'll be prepared once we take it. 3) We only had 15 minutes to answer the d@mn test! P-R-E-S-S-U-R-E!!!

At the first three minutes of the quiz, I was staring blankly on my paper. Hoping that the answers would magically appear. Haha! It was at that time that I wished it was just the normal identification type of exam. Things could have been easier.

Tomorrow, we would be having our second quiz. Get this, we need to memorize all 80 antibiotics, that includes their names (correct spelling), mode of action, indication and side effects. Good luck to me! I sure hope I passed the first quiz. If not, that's one bad omen.

Waaa!!!! I think I'm gonna need meds too!

Save it for a rainy day

The only decent show on cable last night was John Q. I haven't seen it except for the trailers shown during commercials. It stars Denzel Washington so I thought it must be good. I was right. It was a good movie. It showed the lengths a desperate father would do to save his son's life. It also opened my eyes about the realities and importance of having good HMOs.

When I was still working, I rarely used my health benefits. I didn't think that I'd be missing these once I've resigned. Now, if ever I get sick, I'd have to pay with my own money unlike if I have an HMO. In the movie, it was already difficult for the character of Denzel Washington to make ends meet let alone pay for his son's heart transplant because his HMO doesn't cover the procedure. This serves as a lesson to check with your HMO for the coverage of your plan. What if something like this happens to you (knock on wood!)? What more if you're old and have retired from your job? How will you pay for your medical needs? It really is important to get a good medicare insurance so that you're prepared for the rainy days".

As they say, no matter how trite this may sound, health is wealth. We should maximize all our opportunities and benefits so we can live a normal and healthy life.

Song of the Week #8

This is one of my favorite Mariah Carey songs. Yes, I like her music so deal with it. LOL! Actually I like Mariah Carey during her Pre-depression phase. Always Be My Baby has a catchy melody that I just can't help but sing especially the "doo-doo-doop uh" part at the beginning of the song. LOL! However, in this version, performed by American Idol finalist David Cook,it has a different ring to it. I like it too and so does Aris. Actually he was the one who requested that I put this up for the Song of the Week. Hope you guys like it!

Days ahead

This is going to be a stressful week. It's a Monday morning yet I feel so tired already.

My mind and body is still not ready to go back to school.

*sigh*

Still have a lot to do for my Case Analysis that is due on the 9th!!!

*a huge vein on my temple is starting to appear*

The remaining two days of my hospital duty is on Thursday and Friday.

*vein is now pulsating and growing bigger by the minute*

Clean the other room of the apartment for my future MIL.

*blood circulation is slowly depleting*

They say if these images start to move (worse if they're moving really fast!), then your stress level is high. Thank goodness they're just doing tiny jerks. Still... I am stressed.

I definitely, definitely need to go to the spa after this week!

*daydreams: oils, soothing music, dozing off...*

Always be Prepared

The promotion of my cousin is very timely. She has a lot of bills to pay (including late payments), a renovation in her apartment is so overdue plus she badly needs to go to the dentist. A week ago, she has been experiencing a slight discomfort in her right upper molar but now I can see that she's really in pain. Toothaches are the worst for me. Headaches are better. So anyway, she was able to get a medical and dental plan that fits perfectly in her budget. Ameriplan gave her a good price for their health plan and she said that she was not expecting to have those kinds of benefits. These days, it's really important to have medical and dental plans because you'll never know when you might need to drop by your doctor or dentist. It pays to be prepared.

Men are from Mars and Venus

There are times when I can really see that boys or rather men are like women too. This observation probably started when some men are now paying more attention to how they look. Thus the emergence of the metrosexuals. These days, women are not the only ones who go to the spa to relax but men as well. It's not only the women that would love to have a very stylish haircut but it's now the same for men. Besides these physical observations, women's habits or actions are also seen in men. An example was when my boyfriend was huddled with his other guy friends in this party that we attended to. They were so engrossed with their conversation that I got curious as to what they were talking about. Then I heard his friend mention his new chrome accessories. They were talking about cars. They sounded just like us women who would talk and talk for hours about the bags and shoes that we saw in the store. I thought it was about girls or basketball only to find out it was about their latest finds. I wonder what else do men now have in common with women?

The long wait

Grrr! It's been almost an hour and I still haven't finished downloading the official soundtrack of Iron Man. I've been driving all afternoon and I am really tired. My eyes are getting heavy and my bed is calling me. I want to sleep already but I can't. I'm not the type that leaves the computer on all night because that is just a waste of energy. So, I will wait for this download to finish. I never thought I would say this but my laptop has failed me. That's why I am definitely going to make an upgrade on my laptop memory. I shouldn't have to wait this long to download one album. I can just imagine the long wait I would have to endure if I'm going to download a movie.

Spring cleaning = Saving

A garage sale and donations are what usually result from spring cleaning. For some, however, spring cleaning is one of those dreaded days because not only is it really tiring but it's also difficult for those who have a hard time letting go of certain possessions. My cousin is not one of them. When it's time to clean their house, she would just literally pick things in her room be it clothes, shoes, bags, books, that she hasn't touched for the last year or so. This may be a good idea but sometimes there are things that are worth saving. Take for example her maternity clothes, she was already throwing them in the plastic bags marked "donation" when I stopped her. I told her that she could still use these the next time she gets pregnant. It's really no use buying clothes when you can only wear them for a couple of months. Unless she's absolutely sure that they're not planning on getting pregnant again, which is not the case. It's a good thing she agreed and placed the maternity clothes at the back of her closet.

When will it ever be stress-free?

I've always been whiny when it comes to road traffic. Who wouldn't want a smooth and stress-free drive because let's face it, it's really difficult not to rant when you're in a traffic jam and your car has a manual transmission. Not very feet-friendly if you ask me. What really bugs me is when a certain part of a road would get so congested when there aren't even any road accidents and traffic lights only to find out that the buses and jeeps have managed to block the road just so they could get a couple of passengers. One time, a bus almost hit my car when he suddenly swerved to the left just so he can get ahead of the bus in front of him so he can get more passengers. My car insurance would have gone off the roof if that happened. It's a good thing I managed to step on my breaks. No bumps, no scratches but there's one huge vein on my head that's almost ready to pop from suppressing my anger. If only I could get a massage after driving.

Waterfalls, huge window and leather chair

My friend who is a work at home mom asked me to help her with the housewarming party for their new house. I gladly accepted since I love planning parties and putting up decors. I dropped by two days before the party to make an ocular visit so we'd know what to buy.

She gladly gave me a tour of their house and boy was I amazed. They have this really clean looking living room. A glass waterfalls was on the corner of the room that really made me want to sit beside it and read a book. The kitchen was big with a huge window that's perfect for letting the light in. Then she took me to her office slash library. It was like a different world in there. There were tall shelves filled with books and dark wood drawers for their important documents. What really caught my attention was the chair in front of the maple wood table. It's one of those really sleek looking leather office chairs that I see in the movies.

So anyway, the planning went well. On the day of the party, everything went smoothly. The party was a success. A lot of people turned up and we all had a great time.

Just when you thought it was CLEAN

I saw this video at Tumawa K Kabayan's blog and was really shocked and disgusted after watching this video. It's a good thing I'm a bit paranoid when I'm in hotels. It doesn't matter if I'm staying in a 5-star, 3-star, Megastar or Superstar hotel (Bwahahaha!), I still bring my own towel and I never drink from the glass provided in the room. Thank goodness! Here's why...

Women can do it too

Things have been pretty different for women these days. Gone are the times when women are like men's "accessories". Women are not so much limited to the walls of the kitchen of the house. We have more freedom now. The debate may still continue about this idea but I really believe that women can do anything that men can do. We are also less dependent on men now. We don't even need the men to buy us jewelry. Why should we wait for them to buy it for us when we can buy it for ourselves. It is not pathetic. It's just a matter of getting what we want and not expecting others to give it to us. Even diamond rings are not an exception. I've done this before and have bought myself a diamond ring for my birthday and it was truly liberating!

Kudos to all the independent women out there especially to the most important women in the world, our mothers.

Advance Happy Mother's Day everyone.

Brush your teeth!

Last night, when we got home from Trinoma after watching Iron Man, I wanted to go online and check on something but Aris was asking me if I'd be using the toilet. I found it odd but I just thought he wanted to use it and would be long in it and decided to ask me to go ahead. After a couple of minutes, he asked or rather he told me to brush my teeth already so I can continue with my surfing. Still, it was a bit of odd for him to force me to brush my teeth like a five year old. Hehe! But, after another request, I obliged and proceeded to the toilet. I was shocked when I turned on the lights. I found this on the toilet seat.

So that's why... I thought he was possessed by an evil dentist asking me to brush my teeth again and again. Hahaha! He bought me Shopaholic Takes Manhattan. Weee!!! I don't care if I already have Pharmacology and Pathophysiology lectures for the whole month of May. I am going to read it in all of my "free" time. But! I would have to finish first the Harry Potter book. I'm down to a couple of chapters and Sophie's book is next in line. J.K. Rowling would have to wait. :-)

Thanks to my ever sweet and thoughtful boyfriend, Aris. ex-oh-ex-oh! :-D

Iron Man

NOTE: This is a non-spoiler entry.

Last night, Aris and I decided to watch Iron Man in Trinoma. I wasn't really familiar with this character as I was not really into reading comics back then. Though I am familiar with the other Marvel and DC comics heroes and villains, Iron Man is not one of them.

I'm ranking it **** 1/2 out of 5. Nobody/nothing is perfect. Hehe! I enjoyed the sarcastically funny dialogue of Robert Down Jr. The effects are ok and I liked the robots in the movie. And might I just add, Robert Downey Jr. looked so hot in this movie. He's really buffed. *swooning* I loved him in Chances Are and Heart and Souls but in Iron Man, I could say that his muscles looked hard as iron. LOL! Anyway, as much as I liked the fight scenes, I would've loved to see more of it in the movie.

Now don't think that I was only drooling at Robert Downey Jr. the whole movie, it also got me thinking of the troops that are being sent in Iraq and other war zones. It is pretty scary to be in the hands of the enemies. Who knows what kind of torture they have for their prisoners just to get a bit of information. I pray for those who are in the war zones, who bravely battle their fears in order to serve their country. I salute you.

Morning Rush Top 10

When I was still working, Em and I would always listen to Chico and Delamar's Morning Rush show in RX while on our way to work. We actually finish their show even if we're working already. Multi-tasking is key. Hehe! That's how hooked we are especially when the Top Ten is good. There was a time when Em and I were seated beside each other and we would be laughing all of a sudden because of a funny entry in the Top 10. Our other officemates would look puzzled because we weren't talking to each other instead we were typing away in our keyboards with our earphones on. Kala nila siguro nababaliw na kami sa dami ng trabaho! LOL!

So anyway, I'm really glad Chico has put up a blog and patiently posts the Top Ten entries by their listeners. Unfortunately, he only started blogging last year so Em's and my entries that have reached the Top 10 were not there. Yes, Em and I even send entries (if we can relate of course).

Anyway, I was reading his blog yesterday and was browsing through the Top 10 entries. I've chosen the funniest entries from three of the Top Ten topics. Here they are:

Top 10 Worst Answers to Questions:

One of my Korean students went to Canada knowing only the most basic of English. One day, he was hit by a car while riding his bike. The driver asked him, “How are you?” My student replied, “I’m fine, thank you. And how are you?”

--> BWAHAHAHA!!! Even in this situation, he still managed to remember the usual reply to the question: "How are you?" This brings me back to a similar situation when I was studying French and I only knew the basics. Our French-speaking officers would tease/test my French and would say "Bonjour, Valerie. Comment allez-vous?" That's "Good morning Valerie. How are you?" I would then reply jokingly: "Bonjour. Ca va bien, merci. Et toi? Je m'appelle Valerie. Je suis vingt-huit ans. That's "Good morning. I'm fine, thank you. And you? You can call me Valerie. I am 29 years old." BWaHAHAHAHA!!!

Top 10 Phone Moments:

An officemate was directing our messenger over the phone. Officemate: “Hanapin mo yung Petnis Pers! (Fitness First)” Messenger: “Ano, hanapin ko si Bretni Spers?”

--> Hahahaha!!!! Petnis Pers!!! Hahahahaha!!! Bretni Spers!!!!!

A friend called his driver and said, “Manong, pasundo ako sa Ice Monster.” The driver answered, “Okey, saan ba ang bahay niya?

--> BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

Top Ten Things About Your Crush That Turn You Off:

When I invited my crush to watch “Finding Nemo”, I noticed that she’s kinda SLOW, based on her questions like: “What’s the name of the blue fish?” and “Why did Nemo run away?” Paano pa kaya kung “The Matrix” yung pinanood namin? Baka bumula na bibig nun!

--> BWAHAHAHA!!! Nabigla ata sa Finding Nemo. They should've started with Dora first. LOL!

Blog Readability Test

This is the level of education required to understand my blog:

blog readability test

Bwahahaha! Well, I'm not expecting for the results to be a "Genius" but at least @ college level. LOL! It's a good thing my third blog needs a Genius reading level. Hehehe! As if!

Here are the rules:

1. Check out your Blog Readability Test here then post it.
2. (OPTIONAL) Stop asking yourself regarding the results of the test (LOL!)
3. Add your blog from the list together with the results.

5 - Star Award

Got this award from Marie and Vien. Thanks girls! xoxo

My turn!

I'm giving this award to raft3r's The Deadbeat Club, Abie's My Planet Purple, Farah's Pit Stop and Vannie's Fun.Fierce.Fabulous.

I have three words for you

Finals in Pharmacology = Super Duper Hard!!!!

On a lighter note, check this out!

--> BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

LOL!
