Since we're in the topic of drugs, it really is no laughing matter when a loved one is sent to a drug rehab. Most of the time, keen observation is key to detect signs of addiction because drug addiction as we all know isn't just about those recreational drugs like marijuana, heroin, ecstacy, etc. Addiction could start from the most simplest pain reliever. It usually starts there until the drug has little or no effect anymore that the person taking it would look for something that is stronger than the previous one. That's why we are taught in school that just because is saying that he or she is experiencing pain that we automatically give the medicine to the patient. We have to make the necessary assessment to know if the patient is in real pain or is just there to get more drugs that he or she is addicted too.
We should all do our part to prevent or to stop drug addiction. But we should remember that they are just as members of this society as we are so they need our love and support in this endeavor.

Save it for a rainy day
The only decent show on cable last night was John Q. I haven't seen it except for the trailers shown during commercials. It stars Denzel Washington so I thought it must be good. I was right. It was a good movie. It showed the lengths a desperate father would do to save his son's life. It also opened my eyes about the realities and importance of having good HMOs.
When I was still working, I rarely used my health benefits. I didn't think that I'd be missing these once I've resigned. Now, if ever I get sick, I'd have to pay with my own money unlike if I have an HMO. In the movie, it was already difficult for the character of Denzel Washington to make ends meet let alone pay for his son's heart transplant because his HMO doesn't cover the procedure. This serves as a lesson to check with your HMO for the coverage of your plan. What if something like this happens to you (knock on wood!)? What more if you're old and have retired from your job? How will you pay for your medical needs? It really is important to get a good medicare insurance so that you're prepared for the rainy days".
As they say, no matter how trite this may sound, health is wealth. We should maximize all our opportunities and benefits so we can live a normal and healthy life.

It is sad to hear about successful and well-driven people throw away their career, lose their family and friends and even their lives because of addiction to certain substances. For me, you really can't put all the blame on the person with the addiction as there are other things to consider that might have caused this. For me, there are two factors that would help in the rehabilitation of these individuals.
First, is the drug rehab or alcohol rehab. These facilities have made studies in order to help the individuals with their addiction. I read in the internet that there are different treatment programs. Among these is the heroin/opiate addiction treatment program and the marijuana addiction treatment. These rehab centers have devoted their time in studies and research so that they can best rehabilitate individuals with different kinds of addictions.
Second, is the care, understanding and support of the individual's family and friends. This is similar to being sick. These people with addiction need our help and should not be abandoned by the ones they can count on. So for those who are even thinking of just trying these drugs, think a million times before you do because it is not just you who will get affected but your loved ones too.
Remember life is short and it would be a shame spending it inside a rehab center.
