Miss Universe 2008

Since I can remember, I've been watching the Miss Universe pageant every year. It is only when I started working that I stopped because I couldn't watch its live telecast. I could watch it on its replay in the evening but by that time I already know who won (and it's not by choice!) so the excitement and eagerness to watch has escaped me.

So anyway, I'm really excited to watch it tomorrow. I've visited the official website and I was really impressed with all the candidates. They all looked puuurty. Besides rooting for our very own Jennifer Barrientos, I also have a few favorites based on their photos in the official website: For Africa and the Middle East: Miss South Africa; South America: Miss Colombia; Asia & Pacific: Miss Kazakhstan; and Eastern Europe: Miss Albania.

Let's all cross our fingers and hope that Miss Philippines wins!!! :)

I am NOT!

I am not Toni Gonzaga, Angel Locsin nor Billy Joe.
Di ako balimbing! Proud Kapuso ako! Always have and always will. I think this month has been the longest time that the TV has stayed for more than 10 minutes on the Kapamilya network. Pero sadyang kinikilig ako sa palabas na My Girl ng ABS. I love you papa Gerald. Hahahaha! Wala lang... Gusto ko lang i-share. Oo na... traydor na kung traydor. LOL!

It's not that Easy

I am a bit delayed in watching America's Next Top Model so I decided to catch up by watching back episodes. I noticed that one of the hardest outfits to model is women's lingerie. The contestants sometimes underestimate this challenge and so most of the time they end up having pictures that would appeal more to men's magazine than in high fashion magazines. It's difficult to be coached into looking high fashion and gorgeous but not look like a pin up model. If I were a model, I would totally get confused and would end up looking either like a timid woman or a vamp. I now have a different respect for lingerie models. They make it look so easy.

Mangga, Mangga, Mangga!!!

This is one of my favorite local commercials. It's a mango juice commercial from Oishi. I just can't help but repeat the jingle after seeing the commercial. It's such a short TV ad but the jingle (if that is what it is) is really catchy! Hahaha! They also have a different one for their melon juice but the mango version is better. I'm glad they have it in youtube.

Ok now... repeat after me: "Mangga!" (x 12) LOL!!!

Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon Got Married!!!

I was shocked when I saw this on the telly. I didn't even know that these two were dating. That's because it's only been two months since they started dating and then they got married already? Sheesh! I'm starting to like Mariah again then this happens. I have nothing against the couple it's just that... TWO months?! Oh well, that's their lives they're messing with and not mine. Good luck to them!

Here's a video...

Before There Were...

Since I'm in the topic of TV series, I just realized that there are a lot of TV series nowadays. From fiction to reality shows, I just love to watch them all. This got me thinking about the TV sitcoms that I enjoyed watching when I was a kid until I reached high school. Mind you, there's no cable yet there's still a lot of shows to choose from. I remember knowing the TV guide by heart so I'd know when to switch from channel 7 to channel 9 to channel 13. LOL! Yeah yeah, I was a couch potato back then (ahem..until now..). So for the those born in my decade, take a trip down memory lane and see if you watch these shows or even remember any of them.

Before The O.C., One Tree Hill and other high school themed sitcoms, there were:

My So Called Life
Do you remember this show? I think it only had a few episodes before they canned it. I don't know why they did because it was a pretty good show for me. Full of teenage angst, peer pressure and what-nots of teenage life. Oh and Jared Leto is just so cute. Hehe!

Parker Lewis Can't Lose
Whenever I think of this show, there's only one thing that pops in my mind -- Synchronize watches. That's one of the lines in the show when the boys are up to "something".

And of course Beverly Hills 90210
I think this was already aired in the 90's still I have fond memories of my bedroom wall plastered with photos of Jason Priestley. Hahaha! Those were the days...

Before CSI, 24, Prison Break and other TV series in the same genre, I used to watch:

The A Team
"In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire: THE A-TEAM." ... And then queue music. Who could forget Mr. T with his gazillion gold necklaces and chunky rings (he's in style right now. LOL!).

and Macgyver
The man who hates guns and can make any kind of weapon or contraption that will save the day! It's like watching a science project in action. LOL!

Before ER, Grey's Anatomy, House and Scrubs, we've got...

Doogie Howser, M.D.
I love watching this show. I guess because it made me believe that anything is possible since he's just a kid and yet he's a certified surgeon already. I am so gullible. Hahaha!

For the sci-fi, unexplainable, super powers type of TV series like Heroes, Lost and Kyle XY, there were:

Small Wonder
Remember, Vicki the robot and her high-pitched brother? The effects aren't that great but at that time, I was already amazed how Vicki does her chores. I also remember their nosy nextdoor neighbor, Harriet with her puffy bangs and abundantly freckled-face. :-D

And also ALF
ALF which stands for Alien Life Form. I can't really remember much of the episodes except for the fact that I've asked my parents to buy me a stuffed ALF toy but I never got it coz it's not available here in the PI.

Before The Ghost Whisperer and Supernatural, there are two shows that I've come to enjoy watching even though I'd sleep in my parent's room afterwards because I got scared from the show. Haha! These two are:

The Twilight Zone
Just hearing the theme song of this show gives me the goosebumps already. Still, I watch it with one hand raised just beside my cheek ready to cover my eyes. LOL! There's this one episode that I would never forget, and that is the one where I think two teens got stuck inside the mall and when morning came, they turned into mannequins. Yikes!

The second one is Friday the 13th The Series
It's about these two cousins who have inherited from their uncle an antique shop that had cursed items. Did you guys see this show? It's when they track down these cursed items because the people who happened to own them used them and ended up dying or something.

Lastly, this is one of my favorite back then. I can't think of any current TV series counterpart except for the local sitcom Buddy en Sol which was obviously copied from this show's plot.

I'm talking about Perfect Strangers
Remember Balki Bartokomous and his distant cousin Larry Appleton?! I just love this show. Even my dad thinks it's funny back then. I specifically remember their: "Let's do the dance of joy!" bit. hahaha! Love it!

Those were the days... Wish our local channels would do re-runs of these "classics". Hehehe! I'm sure some of you are already reminiscing your other favorite TV shows. Care to share them?

Kyle XY

Aris and I are avid viewers of Kyle XY. Is there anyone out there reading this who's a fan of this show too? This show is like Heroes crossed with Smallville. Two of my favorite shows by the way. Though it's been a long time since I've watched Smallville. What season are they in already?

We really weren't sure what the show was about because we just happened to be channel surfing and stopped at Studio 23 when the first episode was aired. After that, we got hooked! The unraveling of the mystery in the show isn't a long wait like Lost plus the lines of the cast, particularly Josh and Lori's have catchy phrases and sometimes just cracks me up. But, the main reason why I like the show is because I have a crush on the lead. Hehehe! He's got the eyes that I like in a man. Hihihi! His name is Matthew Joseph Dallas. And as always I am such a cradle-snatcher because he's four years younger than me. Ano ba yan?! Hehehe! He can also be seen in James Blunt's music video of Goodbye My Lover opposite Mischa Barton. It's a pity though because his pretty face wasn't that "exposed" in the video.

Have a look...

Ayy! Bitin!

NOTE: Don't panic! This is a NON-SPOILER entry.

Aris bought me this pirated (Sssh!) DVD of ANTM Cycle 9 as I can't wait for ETC channel anymore. Blame it on the low EQ! Ha! So anyway, I was down to the remaining four girls when at the end credits of this episode it went back to the main menu. I thought it was just a glitch so I played it again. The same thing happened. It was then that I realized that it was the LAST episode in the DVD. Motha f@#&%!!!!!! GRRRR!!!! *hair being pulled from all angles!* My gas!!!! Why?! Why?!!?!?!?!

I guess this is punishment for buying pirated DVDs. The same thing happened when we bought the season 1 of Ugly Betty and season 2 of Heroes. Argh!!!! We want our 60 peysos vack!!!! I want them vack!!!! So guys and gels, be wary when buying these pirated DVDs of your favorite TV series. It might say complete season 1 or 2 but you might just get disappointed like me. Lucky if you have a suki coz you can always return it or swap it for a different one (or maybe just get back your money and not buy from him/her again!). Unfortunately for us, we sometimes buy along the sidewalk of Ayala Ave. So pano pa yun? Tapos mega raid pa ng mga pulis. Eh di pati kami makikitakbo pa! Haha!

She won???

WARNING: Mean Girl alert!!!

I was reading this blog entry of my friend, Em a couple of minutes ago and was really laughing my *ss off while watching the video. Hahahaha! And with such great timing, right after watching the video in her blog, this is what I saw in the news.

... Must... stop myself from talking... Must... try not to be mean... Must... BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Paolo Bediones: Janina, how are you?
Janina San Miguel: I'm fine.

Blast from the Past

I think it was last week when I saw in raft3r's blog about his entry regarding his favorite movie, The Cure. Like raft3r, I too love this movie. It was only then that I realized that I don't have a copy of that movie. Thanks to torrent, I was able to download it.

So I was watching it yesterday and had me thinking of another movie that I like. This time, it was an 80's movie -- Secret Admirer. Confession, all the while I thought the title of this movie was The Loveletter. LOL! Now I know the reason why everytime I go to a video store and ask for The Loveletter, they always give me the one with Ellen Degeneres. Hahaha!

I often see this in channel 13 back in the late 80's where cable TV is still non-existent in the Philippines (or maybe just in our place?! Hahaha!). If you can't remember what movie I'm talking about, here's a video of the trailer...

Now do you remember?? It's in the same league as the movies: Somekind of Wonderful, Can't Buy Me Love, Breakfast Club, etc. Typical 80's romantic comedy movie. It's perfect when there's nothing good on the tube and you don't want to think while watching. Hahaha!

Grammy Fever

WARNING: This entry is more of a video train... hehehe! ;-)

I was watching the 50th Grammy Awards this afternoon (and is watching it right now on its primtime telecast) and was just psyched to see the live performances.

I was estatic when I found out that Beyonce is performing with THE Tina Turner (and her famous gorgeous legs!). I just love Beyonce. My friends, especially Emillie (wink, wink) would atest to this. I think I was a "soul sister" in my previous life. Either that or bakla ako non (hanggang ngayon! haha!). I was singing while watching them on the tube. Hahahaha! Here's the video of their performance (thanks to youtube) ...

What's love got to do with this...

Another performance that I really enjoyed watching was the tribute to the Beattles. The lady acrobat or whatever you call her was amazing plus I had goosebumps when the boy and another "soul sister" sang Let It Be. Here's the video (thanks again to youtube) ...

This video, I'm posting for my hubby-to-be (naks!) because he just loves this band... the Foo Fighters. He was too tired and sleepy to watch it (he's sleeping already... poor thing) so I'm posting it here for his viewing pleasure... Muchas gracias youtube!

Lastly, I enjoyed watching the performance of the controversial Amy Winehouse. Even though she wasn't able to perform in LA.. she rocked it in London! GO AMY! Thanks again to youtube.
