From stressed to blessed

It's a Saturday yet I am stressed. The reason for this is because we will be having another hospital duty on Monday. Guess where it's at.... (Dr. Jose) Fabella Memorial Hospital. This will be my first time to set foot in this hospital and my first time to have my hospital duty here. You might be wondering why I'm so anxious to go here. Well, for those who don't know, Fabella Memorial Hospital is also known as the "baby factory". Even Wikipedia gave the same description. It was noted that almost a hundred babies are born here everyday! A hundred! Now do you understand where my stress is coming from? Hehe!

My classmates who had already gone there for their duty told me lots on what it looks like, how the area "smells" like and what could be expected. I think I can handle the crowd and the condition of the facility and even the smell (I have readied my vicks vaporub and alcohol for this) but what I don't think I can handle is the number of pregnant women in one bed. My classmate told me that there were instances that there were 3-4 mommy-to-be in a single hospital bed. Imagine them experiencing labor pains and they have to share a bed with a stranger! I feel bad for them.

I'm pretty sure some would be saying that "they shouldn't have gotten pregnant in the first place when they can't afford to go to a private hospital". That was my initial reaction too but it happened already. We can't turn back time. All we can do is just hope for their safe delivery and have even just a bit of compassion for them.

This I think should make us (particularly the mommies and soon-to-be moms) feel how lucky we are to be able to feel "comfortable" in this kind of situations. Actually, not just being hospitalized or receiving medical attention but life in general. It is in these instances that we should always be reminded how lucky and to be always grateful for all the blessings that we have.

Whew! Now I'm feeling better... I'm less stressed now. All I have to do now is to review my OB notes so I'm ready for Monday.

Wish us luck! :-)

P.S. I'll make a separate post on one of our duties soon.

I think just the thought that you are doing a very noble profession in helping others, should help you feel that it is an honor to be there.. :)

Good luck and all the best!!

Happy Weekend to you too!
